Do they not go astray who devise evil? Those who devise good meet steadfast love and faithfulness.

Proverbs 14:22 ESV

How much time do you spend planning good things? The world tends to spend so much time devising evil things. As the body of Christ, we spend so much time focused on things that are not of God that we fall into the pattern of our old selves and begin to devise evil. God has called us to devise good; he has set aside specific blessings of his love and faithfulness for all who continue to abide in him and do the good works he has planned for us. Constantly examine your thoughts to know if you are devising evil or good.

Extended Version

God has prepared good works for us to do in Jesus Christ’s name. We were created to do these works. We must live in our new nature as members of God’s family. We are called to be noble, and in that call, we are to plan good things and stand for noble things. In short, we must prepare to behave in a godly manner. Keep your heart on God, so your love for God impacts your plans.

Challenge

Take this week to focus on your thoughts. Write down all the times you catch yourself planning evil and good.

Prayer

Lord, I desire to glorify you with my thoughts and actions. Forgive me for my desire to devise evil. Please remind me to focus on you and good things. Continue to change my heart, so I desire evil less and less. In Jesus’ name, amen!
